Next season's most promising new shows

According to Dustin Rowles (Pajiba), these are the ten most promising new shows of next season. Can you guess which one I'm totally sold on? It's not #6, though I am intrigued by that one. Click through to the long version for the answer:

I'm uncompelled by much of what's on the list, but Rowles is right about that one -- that trailer works.

  1. Well, you know already that I'm excited about #4, New Girl. But I can see how the folks at Pajiba believe it would alienate at least half of their readership - it does seem designed to appeal to a very specific demographic. I was also very intrigued by the trailers for Awake and Alcatraz.

However, the thing that I'm really most excited about (and probably shouldn't be, lol.) is the return of Buffy Summers, Sarah Michelle Gellar, to network television. I'm also tickled that Rachel Bilson will be back on t.v. in Hart of Dixie; I loved her on The OC.

  2. As far as the top ten list goes, I'm all for Up All Night (I'm a new mom, so this concept had me hooked even before the preview), Apartment 23, New Girl, Terra Nova, and Awake.

Awake reminds me of a great series of books by Philip Jose Farmer: the Dayworld trilogy. In these books, the population is so big that people need to live only one day out of the week and go into suspended animation for the other six. It follows the Daybreakers who flunt the law by living in all seven days.
