Some of you have heard me rant about the whole "I don't see color" thing. If you haven't, let me give you the short version:
1. That's bullshit.
2. If it weren't bullshit, that would not be a good thing. I don't want you to "not see" that I'm Black. I just don't want you to hate/fear/refuse to hire me based solely on that fact.
Bartlett's article touches on the post-ism craze sweeping America, focusing on post-racialism.
I hAAAaaaaaaaAte when people say that "I don't see color" mess. Really? You can't see that I'm black? Cuz I see that you're white.
ReplyDeleteTo see people as clear implies there's something wrong with otherness. The implied normalness of whiteness also irks me. Why am I an other because I'm not white. I'm not exotic or weird. I'm just not white.
To me post racial means you see that I'm black. And that black is different than white. And that difference is not only okay but kinda cool.
Sorry to rant but I've started to call people out on this ish because it really really irks me. I'll stop preaching to the choir now!
